VBS 2009: Coming up the week of July 19-24, The Crossing will be hosting a Vacation Bible School for the children of Pettigrew Heights, as well as our own children. This falls during one of our mission weeks as a church, so we would like to get each and every one of you involved. While you may not feel as though you have the gifts to help with the VBS, we will be doing a few other things throughout the week that we need helping hands to run so that things will go smoothly. More information will be given to life group leaders soon. Sunday, July 19th: Join us for a special outdoor worship in the parking lot of First Christian Church. Get to know some of the people and invite them to send their children our way for a week of VBS. Worship time will still be at 5:00 p.m. Come early and pray for the people of Pettigrew Heights. Bring your own chairs! Monday, July 20th: VBS starts at the First Christian Church Tuesdsay, July 21st: After VBS, we will be helping the kids cool off by having a water fight. Bring your water guns and any other fun water toys you have to help us bring relief from the hot sun. Wednesday, July 22nd: After VBS, we will be sending people out into the area to pick up trash, help out people with needs (anyone know how to fix cars?), and to pray over the area. We also need to tell people about our fun festival on Friday night. Friday, July 24th: After VBS, we will be celebrating the week with a community meal and games in the parking lot. Bring your family and join in on the fun of inflatables, a dunk tank, and other childhood games that you remember so fondly! If you are interested in helping out during the week, contact your life group leader or Missy De Jong. We can't wait to see you there! |

Now that we have the Bible in a Year Challenge underway, I'm starting to hear some feedback of various types. Note: I appreciate feedback! It helps me lead and resource the church better. In most cases, i'm hearing very positive feedback about the immediate impact scripture reading is having on folks. However, there are a few doubters/nay-sayers that are struggling...so, let me give you some encouragement. 1. You don't "have to"do this! - it's a challenge, not a mandate. |

If you haven’t heard about it yet, The Crossing campout is coming up fast! Last year we christened the 1st annual campout Triathlon. It was an experiment to be sure. We had a few glitches with the run course not being marked as clearly as it should have been. However, despite my organizational shortcomings, the 30 or so participants had a wonderful time challenging themselves and each other in this event. This year we will clarify the markings on the course so we can ensure a fair finish.
There is no entrance fee and the course is designed for involvement. We really want to encourage beginners to sign up. You have the option of completing the whole thing, or participate in one or more legs of the race as a team(teams can consist of 2 or 3). The race will begin on Saturday morning at 9:00 am and will start in waves (groups of about 8) depending on the number of participants. The swim is a 200 yard (4 laps) pool swim. The bike is a 5 mile course consisting of gravel, dirt track and grass. It is mostly gradually rolling hills with one small technical hill at the end. The 2 mile run (walking is permitted) course begins and ends on gravel but is primarily a beautiful trail run over the bridges and through the woods of Inspiration Hills. |
