I need to apologize for placing an expectation on The Crossing that wasn’t fair.  It’s a hard line to find in any relationship what is and isn’t ok to expect of each other.  For instance:  I expect that my wife will not go gambling, drinking or cheat on me.  That is something that we established long ago when we first began our relationship.  (She has held to it)

The Crossing started out several years ago with a mission statement to be “an authentic community passionately following Christ.”  As the worship leader, I expected that we would do our best to live in authenticity with one another and that our passion to follow Christ would be exemplified in our worship on Sundays together.  The thing I realized recently is that many of the people who make up The Crossing are new within the last couple of years!

Slowly over the years, our worship has gotten more and more inauthentic (authentic being: our ability to be transparent in our expression of love to God).  From my perspective we are quietly turning into a “regular” church, afraid of what others might think.  Our expressive passion has turned into mental individualism.  We “worship alone” in a corporate setting doing whatever is comfortable and convenient to us.  The fear of man becomes greater than our love of God.

Now that we have the Bible in a Year Challenge underway, I'm starting to hear some feedback of various types. Note: I appreciate feedback! It helps me lead and resource the church better.

1. You don't "have to"do this! - it's a challenge, not a mandate.
